This website is not about HTML, but some links on HTML should be here. If you really want to make some advanced things, you should use scripting (Javascript, VBScript) and JAVA. The problem with these more advanced stuff is that very often only one browser supports it. Free web pages

It is very intruiging that some organizations offer free space for websites. I have no idea what they get back for it and why they do it. But it's just there to use it. Sites that offer FREE WEB PAGES. A handy list offering also some additional information such as how much space is offered and on what conditions this space may be used. Geocities. A famous place to get a free place for your website. It is divided into thematical sections and you are supposed to keep to the theme. It is hard to find a free place. Tripod: Tools for Life. Another famous place for free websites.

Visitor Counters

Free visitor counters come in 2 categories: the ones that actually do the counting for you and scripts that makes the server of your website do the counting. In the first category the free webcounter is often a kind of advertisement for the commercial counters the company sells. The free version does not offer all possibilities of the commercial one. Or in return for the counting you will advertize by exposing a banner on your website. Installation is very easy, you just get an email saying what you should include in your website to get the counter working. The second category needs some facilities offered by your provider. Things like Server Side Include (SSI), or your own CGI-BIN directory. Not every provider offers this. It also needs that you understand a little bit of scripting, because you have to do the installation yourself. Doing the counting for you and offering a report Digits WebCounter. The famous counter that almost every one seems to have. NedStat. Dutch webcounter, offers the possibility to have a free counter with "limited" possibilities. This still gives a lot of information. 	Guestbooks

Search engines

There are many lists of search engines, this is not the place to add another list, but just links to such lists. More interesting are the special features of search engines. AltaVista shows by far the most links back and is the quickest to list new links. Webcrawler's Surf Backwards. Offers the possibility to list the result in different orders, for example displaying the URL's with the most backward links first. Infoseek: special searches What-U-Seek Offers a special button for backward surfing on each link that is retrieved from a search. It is the only one I have found that can "look through" frames. Other search engines still have trouble seeing a number of framed pages as one document.

Lists of free places to add your URL

There are many places which accept your URL to be added to their list. These lists are usually unsorted and so huge that i have no idea how someone can find a website back. But then again, it won't harm to be on such lists, at least you will have a "backward link". The temporary lists are much more interesting, because they are shorter. 	Link exchange
	For links exchanges you usually need a banner to advertize your website. This banner is shown on other websites, including a link to your page. 	Mailing Lists
	It is very hard to find mailing lists. Newsgroups

There is a countless number of newsgroups. But it is not so difficult to find orientation in newsgroups. Most major search engines offer the possibility to search on keywords in newsgroups as well. The result is a number of messages, but the newsgroup in which the message was posted is mentioned. It is a way to find newsgroups relating to the subject of your website. Dejavu, offers a search possibility on keywords in all newsgroups messages, and it is extremely quick and accurate.

	Virtual Worlds
	DCity Home. Seems to me like a dull city with only homes. AlphaWorld, A 3D virtual world, with chat-possibilities. You can even see other people walking. A special program to walk through AlphaWorld, is available for free at their website. It is very impressing !, but maybe not so good for promoting your website.

Some organizations offer a free service in submitting your website to search engines, web directories etc. To use this you usually have to fill out a quite complicated form, which makes it possible to answer all question that the different search engines ask for.
