History of The Book of Clichés

The first idea for The Book of Clichés was born on IRC, sometime in April 1996. I made an alias in which the Book was mentioned, and I could fill in any cliché which seemed proper to use. I liked the alias, and so did Creamsicl.

At that time I started thinking about and preparing my own homepage. In July 1996 my homepage appeared on the net and The Book of Clichés was part of it. The first versions of The Book were no-frames versions. In October 1996 I put the first version with frames on the net.

At the end of October 1996, I decided that The Book was good enough to be shown to a broader audience, added the NedStat counter and did some promotion activities (which made me think about a "how to promote your website" page). The Book has received several awards, which makes me very happy.

During the years after, many people send me their responses and additions. When I thought the additions fit well into The Book of Clichés, I listed them. Some new categories were added. Without any major changes the website grew slowly.

In February 2000, the lay-out was changed to the current. Partly because I was tired of the old one. Partly because I found out that my provider now offered more options like cgi and ssi, which I both used. The main additions from February 2000, are the search, the message board and the automated translations.

August 2011, The nice technologies have been dropped by the provider for some time now. That broke the site. So it is back to basic html again.
