GILMOUR GETS SILLY WITH "Q"

The June 1999 issue of British music magazine "Q" includes a 'Cash For Questions' article in which David Gilmour is interviewed. 'Cash For Questions' takes humorous and strange questions submitted by readers and poses some of them to celebrities, offering them the chance to deflate themselves, be silly or inappropriate, or occasionaly even give earnest answers to unusual questions.

Gilmour was asked whether 'The Wizard of Oz' synchronizes with 'Dark Side of the Moon.' "If it does, then Roger never let me in on it. It seemed to bear no relation when I tried it. I mean, it can only last for the first forty minutes. What's supposed to happen for the rest of it? Was that supposed to match Wish You Were Here and um... Animals."

Gilmour also mentioned that Roger "Syd" Barrett was invited to Gilmour's 50th birthday party. "He didn't turn up," Gilmour said, "but I got a reply from his sister. She passed on my best wishes to him."

One fan asked Gilmour, if he could say one thing to Roger Waters, what would it be? Gilmour gave a long pause, befor stating simply, "Good luck with your new record."

And what does David Gilmour do all day? "What a long, dull question. Well, I get up at about 7:15. I wake up some children. Make breakfast. Change a nappy. Take a kid to school. Strum a guitar. Doodle in my recording studio some of the time. If the weather's nice I might fly an aeroplane. It's hard to describe what I do, but I never seem to have enough time to do it."

"I'm a fan of Radiohead," Gilmour stated. "They're really good. Actually, I prefer the one before. What's that one called? The Bends, that's right."

And what of the old stories about Johnny Rotton of the Sex Pistols being dicovered because of his "I Hate Pink Floyd" tee shirt in the mid-1970s? "I thought the Sex Pistols were rather good," Gilmour said. "I've been on a show with Johnny Rotten--it was at Sadler's Wells--and he said he never really hated Pink Floyd and actually he was a bit of a fan. I confess to not having entirely believed it in the first place. I mean, who could hate us?"
