VH1 to broadcast portions of McCartney/Gilmour performance
The American television channel Video Hits 1 (VH1) will broadcast
portions of Paul McCartney's benefit concert for People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The concert will premiere on VH1
Saturday, October 16 at 10 PM (ET/PT).
Gilmour plays guitar and provides some backing vocals.
The evening's musical performances have been edited down to make an
hour-long broadcast. VH1 was not able to say how much of the entire
McCartney/Gilmour performance will be shown in the broadcast.
The performance was recorded on 18 September 1999 at Paramount
Studios in Hollywood. The concert was part of PETA's Part of the
Century and Humanitarian Awards. The entire evening included
performances by the B-52s, Sarah McLachlan and Chrissie Hynde, and
comedy from Ellen DeGeneres and Margaret Cho. McCartney cohosted the
evening with Alec Baldwin, Jamie Lee Curtis and Woody Harrelson.
VH1 also stated that although no other Pink Floyd programs are
scheduled at this time, they hope to feature Pink Floyd on an episode
of either "Legends" or "Behind the Music" in the future.
The McCartney concert was the only performance scheduled in support
of the new McCartney album "Run Devil Run." The new album features
Gilmour on guitar, as well as Deep Purple's Ian Paice on drums. The
album consists of covers of classic 1950's rock tunes by Elvis
Presley, Chuck Berry and others. "Run Devil Run" is available in
music stores now.
