PINK FLOYD EARN NEW "DIAMOND" AWARDS FOR SALES



On Wednesday, 17 March Pink Floyd were awarded several new "Diamond" awards by the RIAA for sales of 10 million units of "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon" in the United States.

"The Wall" earned two diamond awards with 23 million copies sold. Each copy of "The Wall" sold counts as two copies because it is a double album. "The Wall" ranked as the third best-selling album, following "The Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

"Dark Side of the Moon" earned a diamond award as well, with 15 million units sold. The diamond award is a new award created by the RIAA to honor artists for sales of 10 million copies of an recording. Gold awards are given for ever million units sold, and platinum for ever five million.
