"Lost in the woods" will explore the life and work of Syd Barrett

A new book about Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett, founding member of Pink Floyd, will be published in the U.K. in June 1998 by Boxtree/MacMillan. The book "Lost In The Woods" is the result of three years of extensive work by Julian Palacios. Palacios' work included taking information from over 200 articles, including cross-references, and interviews with 14 people who knew Barrett through all stages of his life.

"Lost in the Woods" will be 380 pages long. It will include a complete discography by Vernon Fitch who maintains the Pink Floyd Archives, and an index of Barrett's live recordings compiled by Scott Frank. The book will also feature a complete listing of Barrett and early Pink Floyd recording sessions (studio, television, radio and film) and a listing of every live Syd Barrett appearance between 1953 and 1972.

The book also touts thorough discussions of every song Barrett recorded. It will also explore Barrett's guitar technique, and will discuss Barrett's influences ranging from Bo Diddley to James Joyce. The book is also illustrated with photographs, including two which have never been published before. The book even quotes an essay by Elisa Roney which was written exclusively for the Breathe web site.

"My aim in writing the book was to dispel once and for all the myth that Syd Barrett was a guy who took too much acid and went crazy," Palacios told The Steel Breeze. "Instead, the book is about an extremely talented musician and innovator who had a breakdown because of various factors, and an examination of how it happened."

Copies of "Lost in the Woods" can be ordered from Helter Skelter Books, the world's only music specialist bookstore, located at http://www.skelter.demon.co.uk The author has created a Barrett web site which includes excerpts from the book.
