guest artist
Dave Gilmour will be a guest artist at the Hammersmith (London) Apollo on June 29. The concert is to honour songwriters and rock and roll architects Leiber and Stoller. Leiber and Stoller were writers in New York's Brill Building during the early 50's and 60s. As well as penning 'Hound Dog', 'Jailhouse Rock', a raft of hits for Elvis Presley , and writing other classics such Ben E King's 'Stand by Me', they provided a blueprint for the construction of rock and roll songwriting, proving a major influence on Phil Spector.
The show will raise funds for the Nordoff-Robins Music Therapy Charity. Others set to appear are Leiber and Stoller themselves, Roger Daltrey, Ben E. King, Edwin Starr, Westlife, Chris Rea, Gabrielle and Elkie Brooks. The Kansas City Allstars, (rumoured to include members of the Rolling Stones) and other classic British acts, will also play. All artists will cover Leiber and Stoller classics.
In other news. David was reportedly in the studio about 6 weeks ago, putting down the guitar track for a new movie. No further details are currently available.
