"DEMON DISPATCHES" INTERVIEWS NICK MASON

Issue 16 of Demon Dispatches at http://www.dispatches.demon.net/issue16/34a.html includes a new article about Nick Mason. The article focuses on Mason's car collection, his love of motorsport, and his recent book about his automobiles. But, of course, Nick also discusses his music.

Do Pink Floyd have plans for a new album or tour? "Not at the moment," Mason replied, "but we do talk about it fairly regularly. We need to record some more material before we can tour again, and I think there's at least one more album in us."

Nick expressed his dislike of unofficial 'bootleg' concert recordings: "It's not just the money. It doesn't exactly worry rich pop groups, does it? If people want to make music free, that's fine, but a lot of people make their living that way and if it's going to happen, they will need to restructure the whole music industry, which won't be easy, especially as the laws are different in each country. The Japanese, for example, are notorious bootleggers, but legislation allows them to do it and prevents anyone else. Besides, part of the attraction of vinyl and CD is the package for the collector. A record collection is a nice thing to have and you don't get that on the Net."

Mason also admitted that he had idly explored a few Pink Floyd web sites. "I thought a lot of the Floyd fanzines were rather disappointing. I used to look more often when I was touring, stuck in hotel rooms. Otherwise I can't be bothered. I do use email, though. That works well."
