Pink Floyd might begin new project in 1997

There are hints that Pink Floyd might be coming back to life within the coming year.

On a December 3, 1996 interview on Toronto radio station Q107, Rick Wright revealed that he believes that Gilmour wants to go back into the studio. Asked about the future of Pink Floyd, Wright replied, "There will be another album, definitely. It's not that we've stopped. I'd be very surprised if we don't do another album and tour within the next few years."

"The future of Pink Floyd I think pretty soon will be recording the next album, and out of that a tour would happen," Wrght elaborated in another December 1996 interview. "I would not be content that The Division Bell was the final Floyd effort. I would like to see it carry on."

Wright speculated about how the album might be written, beginning with outtakes from The Division Bell. "There is a lot of material left over from Division Bell... I'm sure Dave and I will go through all those things again for the next Pink Floyd album." A cautionary note: The Divison Bell took roughly two years to write and record. Even if Pink Floyd begins working in 1997, the project might not be ready for release until 1998 or even 1999.

Pink Floyd has been dormant since the release of P*U*L*S*E, excepting an appearance (with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins) when Pink Floyd was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
