Warsaw, 12th April: Members of the Polish Green Party [PPZ] will enter the parliamentary elections on the Democratic Left Alliance [SLD, senior partner in the government coalition] electoral lists, Wieslaw Kossakowski, PPZ chairman and a SLD deputy, said at a news conference in Warsaw today.

"We want about 20 PPZ members to be included on the SLD lists, so that a group of genuine ecologists can enter the future parliament to create an ecological lobby." he added. According to the PPZ, the SLD election programme should strongly emphasize issues related to ecology, equal opportunities for men and women and issues related to young people.

Much attention at the meeting was focused on the idea of an ecological green table, which is being promoted by the PPZ. The party would like all ecological organizations to meet twice a year to discuss issues related to the protection of the natural environment. It regards as priorities the issue of regulating the Vistula river, the situation in [the mining region of] Silesia and the adoption of the law on the protection of animals. It attaches equal importance to changing the ecological attitudes of society.

The PPZ has about 4,000 members in all provinces.
