Green Party Internet list application

For a current version of this file, email list-app@greens.org.

All Green activists who are involved in Green organizing are invited to participate in one or more new Internet email lists.

WHAT ARE THE EMAIL LISTS?

The home base for the email lists is the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) network, where they originate as electronic conferences.

People with access to APC conferences (IGC users, for example) access the conferences through a newsgroup or BBS-like interface. People who do not use IGC (or another APC member) are able to participate in the conferences via email, by filling out the form below.

GUIDELINES FOR POSTING TO THE LISTS.

Messages appropriate to these lists would include election results, regional, state or national meeting reports or policy statements (or international in the case of gpty.intl), important news items about the Greens, annoucements of Green sponsored public events or internal memos. We ask that messages remain as short as possible and that you respect our times and bandwidths when you post.

Formal Green decision making (outside of decisions concerning the lists themselves) does not occur on this electronic forum. This ensures that Greens who do not have electronic access will be able to participate equally in formal decision making.

ELECTRONIC CONTACT PERSONS

The Green Party of California has established a network of Electronic Contact Persons (ECP) who are be responsible for posting and retrieving messages in areas around the state. If your area does not have one, please consider serving this function.

RESTRICTIONS

It is very important that messages remain brief and focused on Green organizing.

These lists are not general purpose discussion lists. There are many lists, conferences and newsgroups which provide a forum for general purpose discussion of greenish issues. PLEASE use those forums for debates and discussion on issues other than those related to the Green Party.

To ensure that these lists are properly used, we reserve the right to remove anyone from the lists who repeatedly posts messages that are not within the above guidelines.

USENET

There is a Usenet newsgroup, alt.politics.greens, which is available for general Green discussion. It is not specifically sponsored by a Green organization, and it is open to anyone with Usenet access, so sometimes there can be lots of debate with people who aren't sympathetic to Green ideas.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone who is a member of a Green Party as defined above is encouraged to participate.

People who are not members of a Green Party but support the goals of the Green Party and would like to "listen-in" are also welcome to submit an application. Please indicate on your application why you want to participate in a Green list.

Unfortunately, we can only include people who have an Internet address that can be accessed from IGC without charge. (Sorry, but we have no way of covering those costs.)

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MAILBOX

Please be sure the email address you give is correct and reliable. Do not sign up with an address at which you have never received mail. Most of the work of managing these lists, and the reason that we can't automate the processing, is that so many people give wrong addresses, or flaky ones, or they lose the account and don't bother to tell us.
