Developments and agenda in 1999

26-28 February: Paris, Second Congress of the European Federation. Consensus about a the aim and a timeline for a global network of Green Parties, including a statement of principles and a Global Green meeting in Canberra, Australia at Easter 2001.

3 March: regional elections in the Netherlands, good result for GroenLinks. Two seats for De Groenen in alliances with regional parties.

7 March, Die Grünen loose seats in Hessen (Germany). No majority for SPD/Grünen coalition.

21 March, parliamentary elections in Finland. Greens win 11 seats (increase of 2) and get one and a half minister in the new coalition.

30 March, Green Party wins seat in State Assembly of California.

6 May, Scottish Greens win seat in Scottish parliament.

24 May: senate elections in the Netherlands. GreenLeft double its seats to 8. De representative of De Groenen keeps his seat.

10-13 June: election European Parliament in Europe. Member parties of the European Federation win 37 seats (increase of 11). First seats of Green Party of England and Wales in European Parliament. Reentering of Les Verts in EP. Belgian Greens win in national elections and take party in Federal coalition with the liberals and the social-democrats.
