Additive Color Mixing

In adaptive color mixing, the three primary colors red, green and blue are combined to create any other color. This method is used in a computer monitor.
Below you see the colors with maximum intensity. Red and green form yellow; red green and blue form white. Colors like pink and brown are formed by using lower intensities.

Subtractive Color Mixing

In subtractive color mixing, the three primary colors cyan, magenta and yellow are combined to create any other color. This method is used in a color printer.
Below you see the colors with maximum intensity. Cyan and magenta form blue; cyan, magenta and yellow form (almost) black. To print real black, black ink is needed.

Complementary Colors

Complemtary colors are colors that are on opposite points in the color cube. E.g. yellow and blue are complemtary colors. So are black and white.
Grays are formed by combining three primary colors with the same (but not the maximum) intensity and therefore can be found on the black to white axis.
